It has been announced that the manga “Cat’s Eye” by Hojo Tsukasa will be made into a completely new anime in 2025 and will be exclusively distributed on the “Star” section of Disney’s official video streaming service “Disney+”. Along with the announcement, an anime teaser visual and a special teaser movie featuring “CAT’S EYE” sung by Ado were released.
“Cat’s Eye” is a romantic comedy written by Hojo Tsukasa and serialized in “Weekly Shonen Jump” from 1981 to 1984. It depicts the three beautiful sisters Hitomi, Rui, and Ai who own the cafe Cat’s Eye, sometimes running around the world at night as phantom thieves called Cat’s Eye, sometimes engaging in dazzling action scenes and thrilling romances with detectives.
It is popular not only in Japan but also in Asia and Europe, and in 2022 an exhibition of original artwork was held to commemorate the 40th anniversary. It is a legendary work that continues to be loved by many fans and is adapted into various media all over the world.
It was announced at the Disney Content Showcase 2024 held at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore on November 21st that this work will be made into a new animated series in 2025 and distributed worldwide on Disney+. It was also revealed that Ado will be singing the original theme song for this work. Regarding
the series being made into an animated series, the original author Hojo commented, “I was surprised when I heard that it would be made into an anime again this time, but I am very grateful to all the fans who have supported me for so many years.”
The teaser visual also shows Hitomi, Rui, and Ai posing under the moonlight. A special teaser movie was also unveiled, featuring Ado’s song “CAT’S EYE” (by Anri). The stylish finish draws viewers into the world of “Cat’s Eye,” raising expectations for the film.
Regarding her appointment, Ado said, “When singing the song, I paid my respects to Anri, but mixed my own style with her 80’s singing style. What do you all think? This beloved, legendary work has returned to the present day with even more glory, and I feel very honored to have been able to be a part of it as a singer. I hope that the song has turned out to be new, yet nostalgic. Let’s enjoy the new series of Cat’s Eye together.”
