A statue has been released in memory of “Berserk” author Kentaro Miura! “Berserker” Guts is depicted in three dimensions with a theme of “motion”

The Japanese art brand ART OF WAR has released a statue called “Guts Chinkon Kai,” based on the protagonist Guts from the manga Berserk, and created as a tribute to the late author, Kentaro Miura. Sales will begin on December 3rd at 12:00, exclusively on the official ART OF WAR website.

Berserk is a dark fantasy by Kentaro Miura that began serialization in Monthly Animal House in 1989 and later moved to Young Animal. Set in a world of swords, magic, and monsters, it depicts the heroic life of Guts. With a profound storyline, compelling characters, overwhelmingly detailed drawings, and unrivaled creativity, it has captivated readers in Japan and around the world.

It has been translated into a total of 20 countries and regions overseas, and the total number of copies of the series published worldwide, including both paper and digital versions, is 60 million. It was first adapted into a TV anime series from 1997 to 1998, then made into a trilogy of animated films from 2012 to 2013, and again into a TV anime series from 2016 to 2017. Ten years after its release, the animated film depicting the “Golden Age” was also broadcast as a memorial edition TV series in 2022.

The new “Guts Requiem Kai” statue was created by ART OF WAR, who had a very deep relationship with Miura while continuing to create the three-dimensional sculptures for this work, and completes the two-part memorial work that was released in 2022 with “Guts Requiem.”

The previous game, “Guts Requiem,” was based on the motif of Guts in his natural form, and expressed “stillness.” This new game, “Guts Requiem Kai,” is themed on “motion,” and features another form of Guts, a “berserker” clad in armor, and took more than a year to develop.

While based on the previous work, the highlight is that the details have been significantly changed. A lot of effort was put into expressing the Berserker’s strong, agile, inorganic, and mindless characteristics. In addition, the proportion balance was carefully adjusted to pursue realism, and the torso and limbs, which are rich in muscle and fat, are designed to be tight and contracted, integrating with the armor.

While emphasizing the definition of muscle, the head is slightly larger because of the skull and the limited ability to shrink. This creates a unique and overwhelming realism that has never been seen before. The coloring of the armor has also been made more realistic than ever before, with a texture that looks as if it was made by casting.

Prices are excluding tax, with “Guts Chinkon Kai” and the “War Demon Soldier” accessory coming together going for 280,000 yen, and “Guts Chinkon Kai” alone going for 250,000 yen. Only 77 units will be sold with the accessory, while only 30 will be sold by itself. They will be available exclusively on the “ART OF WAR” official website from 12:00 on December 3rd.
