November 18th is “Good Earphones and Headphones Day”.
The name is derived from the wordplay on “ii (11) iya (18) hon,” and aims to promote the appeal of earphones and headphones.
Characters who love earphones or headphones often appear in anime. The reasons for this vary from character to character, such as loving music and always having them on, cutting out the noise around them to concentrate on their own world, or wearing them as a fashion statement .
So Anime! Anime! conducted a reader survey titled “Who’s the ‘Earphones/Headphones’ character?”
following on from last year. We received responses from 1,150 people during the survey period from November 8th to November 12th. The gender ratio was about 30 percent male, about 60 percent female, and about 10 percent gave no response, with more females than males. In terms of age group, the majority were young people, with about 55 percent under 19 and about 15 percent in their 20s.
